The Nanny Diaries: Sprinkler Fun!

Emmie has discovered the sprinkler! It's a great way to cool her off when I'm too lazy to get in the Otter Ool. Not to mention a fun way to water the garden! She's just about the cutest thing I've ever seen and adding a heathy dose of spraying water just multiplies her cuteness by a zillion! And she wore that Tangled costume all day! I took a video today, but she's not much of a diva, so I wasn't able to do justice to her adorable self! She actually looks kind of angry in the beginning..

As long as the camera was out, I couldn't get her to walk through it-- which is such a shame because you haven't seen cute until you see that! Hopefully I'll catch it soon!
I LOVE EMORY JAMES!

The Nanny Diaries: Rhyme Tyme!

We've been watching a lot of Cat in the Hat recently (or "CAH-HA" in Emorese). As a result, Rylee has picked up a bit of a Dr. Seuss-y speech pattern:
Oh she cracks me up!

Her rhymes are usually much funnier and involve unicorns, but she said that she couldn't concentrate with a camera in her face.

EmPot Turns Two!

Sweet Emory James turned two last Thursday! Ed and Ashlee were in Vegas for work, so mom and I got to throw her a little birthday party! We started the day at CHOM and finished at CiCi's. Even Jaden came to CHOM with us! I hope you're comfortable because this will be a very long, very picturey post!

Feel free to check out my Facebook album for more birthday fun!

The Nanny Diaries: Long Live Summer

We've been having loads of fun since summer started!
Thursday, we went to the NES playground to play and have a little picnic.

Friday, we had a pool day with all three babies.

Juicy Lucy loved the water!
Emory didn't like the pool, but she had fun playing with the hose and being splashed!
Rylee loves to swim! Sadly my camera died before she got brave enough to jump off the diving board
Ry thought it was so cool that Margo loved to swim too!

The Nanny Diaries: A Very Potter Weekend

This past weekend I kept the Potter babies while Ed and Ashlee went to Hangout! We had loads of fun! And I shared the responsibilites with GeeGee so it wasn't all that hard either. Here's what went down.

Friday:
Me and the babies picked Rylee up from the bus stop and we went to my house for a little while. We jumped on the tampoline, colored, ate pizza, and watched movies on VHS! Ry could believe how big they were! My Mawmaw held Juicy Lucy all afternoon so she was a very happy baby. When we got back to their house that night, the girls were so exhausted they barely made it through their buble baths. Emory begged to go "night night" the whole time.
Saturday:
Ry had been waiting for Saturday all week! I promised to take her swimming if the weather was pretty and thank God it was! We got up, made pancakes, dropped the little girls off at GeeGee's, and headed to OT's.
We stayed at the pool until 2, then it was time to go to gymnastics. Ry hates gymnastics, but luckily this was her last one! Not that that made her any happier to go, especially since she had to leave her fun. It didn't help that I had forgotten to bring sunscreen and she had gotten a bit of a sunburn. We finally got to the recital, Ry did great and got her award, then we got ice cream and she was happy again when I dropped her off at GeeGee's for the night. Ry is the one in pink! We weren't in the greatest spot for video, so please excuse the woman's head and blurriness.

Sunday:
The girls stayed at GeeGee's to play with their cousins while I went to ACA's graduation to see Sydney, Melissa, Mary Ann, and Kendall! Also it was Emily & Matt's wedding day! They had a very small family wedding and were not able to invite friends (I know how that feels. So stressful!) so I was honored when her mom asked me to decorate their cars before they got home! Don't worry, it was very tasteful! Not at all what I expect Tommy 4Runner to look like. The pictures from their photobooth are adorable! After my free day, I picked up McDonald's for dinner (yeah, I know, Future Mrs. Homemaker, right?), and brought the girls back to their house. Dinner, baths, bed. Pretty standard school night stuff.

Monday morning:
Made America Muffins, which me and Ry decided was what you call it when there are both strawberry and blueberry muffins in one pan, and got ready for school. Ry did not want to go to school after such a big weekend so when her alarm went off the was deathly ill and couldnt get dressed because her sunburn had made her too cripsy. Those are her words and I don't even want to picture a crispy sunburn. But after a few muffins she was ready to go!

Wow! If you read all this you're either quite a reader, or really like babies. Both ways, I'm glad you stopped by! Have a Happy Hump Day! Please, no dirty thoughts there.

The Nanny Diaries: What's the number for 9-1-1?!?

So I've been meaning to blog for a long while because it is super theraputic but I just can't think of anything to tell you! Which is crazy because I've had so much going on! I thought of a subject one morning and was planning to build on it buuuutttt then Lucy got fussy and the idea got lost in my head amid all the other stuff floating around in there. So instead of whatever great topic that might have been, I'm going to tell you about our run-in with the cops. Well...a cop. And it was more like a visit. Anyway, here we go!

Miss Rylee Potter. She is quite the character and a lot of fun!

Monday was particularly calm for a Monday; until disaster struck! DUNDUNDUUUNNNN! Rylee came home from school with a pouty look on her face. When I asked her what was wrong she slowly and sadly handed me her school folder and opened it to display her first ever red light :( After she showed me she proceeded to ask if I would tell her parents for her because she was going to GG's house and wasn't sure when she would return. To her dismay GG told her no and she had to stay to face her consequences. After that plan failed she asked to use the phone to call her friend. She told me that her mommy let's her use the phone all the time (kind of true, turns out she usually just calls them and GG) so I said yes. She dials once, twice, three times and then hurridly hangs up and tells me her friend isn't home.

She plops down on the couch to watch cartoons and after a few minutes says, "Bethany...what happens when you call the police?"

I told her that they come to your house immediately and if there isn't a real emergency, you would get in trouble. Now, I know that most of you know exactly what I'm going to say next, but at this point I hadn't put it all together yet. Because 5 year olds ask SO many questions, I didn't think anything of it.

*knock knock knock*
Who could that be knocking at this time? I thought. I opened the door to a lady cop (who, in my opinion, are scarier than man cops). This is how it went down:
Cop: We recieved a call and hang up from this number.
Me: Oh uhhh....wait, I know...Rylee? What was your friend's telephone number?
Ry: 9-1-1-10. Why?
Me: Come here and see.

Rylee came to the door and went white! The nice police lady told her why not to call the police and to never do it again. I thanked her for checking on us and closed the door. Rylee was staring listlessly at the tv. I asked if the police woman scared her.

"No!" she said defensively, "Well... maybe a little."

It's been fun :)

The Nanny Diaries: Our Huge Adventure

Friday conclued my first week at my new job--I know a lot of young guys roll their eyes when babysitting is referred to as work, but I'd like to see them do it--and even though it was a crazy week, I love it! I'm in charge of three most precious little girls: Rylee, 5; Emory, 19 months; and Lucy, 5 weeks. They are good girls and no trouble at all, but my first week has been absolutely insane! So much has happened! But I've decided that at least I'm getting exposed to everything all at once so that I'll know what to do further down the road.

Monday: First day with the Potter's. Rylee and I bowled with zoo animals while her mom took baby Lucy to the doctor. While we were playing, she looked at my leopard print flats and asked "Was an animal poached to make your shoes?!" to which I replied "No" but what I was thinking was, Oh my gosh! She is so smart! What five year old uses the word poached?!

Later Rylee perfected her swinging and chalked it up to me teaching her. I didn't actually do anything but if she thinks I'm awesome for teaching her how to swing, that's cool with me! While we were outside I also learned that Emory's middle name is James. Emory JAMES POTTER. As in Harry Potter's dad! How cool is that?! Wow...I am a total nerd.

When Mrs. Ashlee got back from the doctor she told us that Lucy had a cold and would be better in a few days.

Tuesday: Emory runs to greet me at the door. Adorable in every way! She kissed the tip of my nose and now I have to love her forever! Ashlee showed me how to clean little children and I found out that I can use it as play time if I'm ever feeling overwhelmed. Rylee, Emory and I played in the sandbox. Poor Lucy's cough was worse and she kept choaking so she was taken back to the doctor and diagnosed with RSV. Sick babies are the saddest things in the world :(

Wednesday: Rylee had to get a haircut before school started the next day so it was just me, Emory and Lucy at the house--which is how it will be everyday while Rylee is at school. About 15 minutes later when she realized she was alone, Emory started crying because she missed her mommy and, since I was not her mommy, nothing I did could console her. She ran to the door and tried to put her coat on, which sounds very logical for someone who isn't quite two, except for the fact that it was still hanging on the rack so she was just kind of dangling there on the wall (I tried to stifle a laugh but, I'm sorry, that was just too funny!). Lucy woke up in all this hooplah and decided she was hungry but I could not for the life of me find her formula! So here I am with two terribly distraught little girls and no idea how to help either one. Then *lightbulb* I remembered bath time. I filled up the tub and ploped crying Emory in and she immediately calmed down and started playing in the water. This gave me time to find Lucy's pacifier and bouncy seat. I put her in the seat and she went straight to sleep. BATH TIME IS WONDERFUL! Got Emory clean, got Lucy clean (she hates baths) and as I was putting on her clothes she got strangled on her phlegm and spit up just as Ashlee and Rylee were coming in. Poor baby!

Ps. I wasn't by myself this week. Ashlee is still on maternity leave and I'm just helping her out and learning important kidsies stuff. All this just happened to happen while she was at Rylee's hair appointment.

Thursday: Ashlee had a doctor's appointment  that morning and Rylee was back at school so once again it was me, Emory and Lucy. This time Emory was okay with just me being there. We watched Dora and Little Einsteins:Our big HUGE Adventure about twenty times before Lucy woke up and wanted to eat. She seemed better and ate a lot, but, once again, right as Ashlee walked in, she spit up everything. Ashlee took her back to the doctor to see what was up and Emory and I watched movies. Annndd she took a nap! I haven't been able to get her to take a nap all week and I finally did it! I was so proud! When Ashlee came home she told me that Lucy was being emmitted to the hospital for treatment and that Rylee's puppy, Harley, had been run over. She packed a bag for Lucy and was off to the hospital. She's a great mom. Juggles everything and stays so calm. I don't know how she does it! I'm just the nanny and I was freaking out! Mr. Ed (the Potter husband, not the horse) brought Rylee home and told her about Harley--which she handled surprisingly well, I thought--then went to help GiGi (Ashlee's mom) bury the dog. The Potter parents handled all the tough stuff and I fed Rylee and Emory ice cream and got them ready for their sleepover at GiGi's.

Friday: I walked in right as GiGi was dropping off Rylee and Emory. Rylee wasn't feeling good so her dad took care of her and I played with Emory. Ten minutes later, poor Rylee was throwing up. She felt a lot better afterwards and was outside swinging within two hours. Emory is teething so that made her a little fussy but nothing too bad. Not even a little bad. She sat in my lap for almost an hour just watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. The afternoon was pretty calm with no big events. Rylee had to get her booster shots which had her in a fit all day (not that I can blame her. Shots still make me cry and faint) and Lucy was still in the hospital but Emory took another nap so that was good!

It was a crazy week! I'm so lucky to have Ashlee there most of the day because if she hadn't been I wouldn't have had any clue what to do. Lucy got to come home Saturday so praise God! And acoording to Facebook she doing pretty good. Even though I have only known the Potter girls for a short time, I'm already in love with them! How could I not be? They are precious! Rylee even drew me a picture! I love this job! It's taught me how not to be squimish. I can change diapers, deal with spit up, wipe noses, and use the nose sucker all without gagging. Well, most of the time anyway

How's your first week back been?
